Enterprise scheduling software pays off when labor rules are complex and headcount runs into the thousands. A 200-person business with one or two sites rarely needs AI forecasting or a six-figure implementation. Other buyers would rather schedule inside the HR and payroll system they already run than add a separate platform.
Alternative categories and vendors
For shift-based businesses with 20 to 500 employees, Deputy is a lighter option, with plans from $5 to $9 a user each month billed annually and a free trial. It covers schedule building, break compliance and labor cost visibility; US payroll is a paid add-on, and onboarding and applicant tracking are not included. Above about 500 employees its reporting and admin tools start to fall short, which is roughly where the enterprise products begin.
Some buyers are better served by an HCM suite that includes scheduling. Dayforce combines payroll, time and attendance and workforce management for 500 to 10,000 employees, while ADP Workforce Now puts payroll first, with its Select, Plus and Premium packages estimated at about $23 to $30 PEPM for the software. Workday is the benchmark for enterprises wanting workforce planning and HCM on one data model, at a far higher total cost.
